A Greeting from the Director of Public Safety

director

The Western Michigan University Department of Public Safety is committed to the concept of community policing and works diligently to develop and maintain partnerships for improving the quality of life for our campus community.

The WMU Police Department strives to adhere to the highest ethical standards and reflects the diversity of its community members. Our department participates in cooperative efforts with other area police agencies, maintaining close working relationships with Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department, Kalamazoo Township Police Department and the Michigan State Police.

WMU Public Safety is committed to hiring and promoting talented officers and professional staff, employing the highest standards of performance, encouraging accountability, and reflecting the values of a learner-centered, discovery-driven, and globally-engaged university. We work hard at keeping our campus safe while continuing to be a very service-oriented department.

On behalf of the dedicated men and women of the Department of Public Safety, I welcome you to explore our website. It is my hope this site provides you with important insights into our department, its operations, and the services we offer to keep our community safe.
