About Us
WMU Department of Public Safety
We are located at 511 Monroe Street, just east of the main campus and northwest of Waldo Football Stadium.
Public Safety has over 40 full-time employees, civilian and police, amongst multiple divisions and bureaus.
The department also employs over 50 students each year to assist in our mission to maintain a safe campus.

Western Michigan University Department of Public Safety is one of fourty, out of nearly six hundred, police agencies in Michigan to achieve accreditation. WMUDPS voluntarily sought accreditation beginning in May 2019. After a team of trained MACP commission assessors evaluated the department against 108 “best practice” standards including use of force, vehicle pursuit, search and seizure and internal operations (training, command structure, recruitment, etc.), WMUDPS was granted full accreditation in February of 2021.
